If you have wheat allergies or suffer from celiac disease, we have hundreds of delicious, gluten-free deli options for you. Almost all of our fresh deli meats contain no gluten, and all of our artisan cheeses and condiments are gluten free.

What is gluten?

Gluten is the sticky protein substance in wheat. Many lesser quality deli meats contain starchy fillers and extenders, which we never use. In fact, the Celiac Sprue Association has listed over 400 Dietz & Watson products as CSA-Gluten-Free.

Which D&W products contain gluten?

Only two of our deli meats contain gluten: Dietz & Watson Scrapple and Bockwurst. All of our artisan cheeses and condiments are 100% gluten free.

Nitrate Free Deli Selections

Nitrates are a type of salt commonly used in making cured meats, like hot dogs or bacon. Nitrates help to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria, and give cured meats their characteristic color and flavor. There are many popular misconceptions about nitrates, and recent research has found that nitrates may even be beneficial. Even so, if you are concerned about limiting nitrates in your diet, we offer more than 75 nitrate-free deli meats, and all of our artisan cheeses and condiments are 100% nitrate free.

Did you know?

You would have to eat 467 hot dogs to equal the same amount of nitrates found in one serving of arugula, two servings of butterhead lettuce, or four servings of celery or beets.

Are nitrates bad for you?

Recent research suggests that nitrates may not only be harmless, but may actually be beneficial for immunity and heart health. Most of the nitrates we get in our diet come from vegetables like spinach and lettuce. There is no difference in the nitrate that you get from cured meats versus what you get from vegetables.

If you have diabetes, you know how important it is to maintain a healthy diet. Many lunch meats are heavily processed and contain high levels of fat, sodium and carbohydrates. The best choice for diabetic diets?

Look for products that are lower in fat, sodium and cholesterol. Lean turkey breast, ham, roast beef and chicken breast are usually the best options.
